The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is a partner of the 4th International Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) Symposium. As an intergovernmental organisation engaged with more than 170 countries worldwide, IRENA promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. For more information about IRENA, please find there website here.
As a part of its efforts to actively promote the proliferation of all forms of renewable energy – including OTEC – IRENA published a series of technology papers in 2014 exploring the potential for power generation from ocean energy. Download the brief here.
IRENA is organising a panel session at the Symposium on OTEC implementation on islands. The outcomes of this panel session will be used to inform IRENA’s new framework for scaling up renewable energy – holistically and sustainably – in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), named the SIDS Lighthouses initiative.
